Quick summary

  • Cryptogram: Ciphered Puzzles is a free cryptogram puzzle game for Android where you decode famous quotes, wisdom, jokes, and riddles that have been hidden behind a number cipher: every letter is replaced by a number, and the code changes every level.
  • It is fun because every letter you find turns more of the quote into readable words, so a single good deduction can crack half of it.
  • It is challenging because thousands of hand-crafted puzzles climb from beginner-friendly to expert-level, with new Daily Ciphers every day.
  • It is relaxing: no timers, a minimal zen interface, a hint system that never spoils the “Aha!” moment, and full offline play.
  • Get it on Google Play. An App Store version is coming soon.

If you like crosswords, Wordle, sudoku, or logic puzzles, a cryptogram is the puzzle you have been missing. It mixes all three: you need vocabulary like a crossword, deduction like sudoku, and the satisfying letter-by-letter reveal of a word game. We built Cryptogram: Ciphered Puzzles at Cool Glitch to be the calmest, cleanest way to play them on your phone.

What is a cryptogram puzzle game?

A cryptogram is a quote where every letter has been replaced by a code. In Cryptogram: Ciphered Puzzles, that code is a number: every A in the quote might be shown as 2, every T as 14, and so on. Inside a puzzle the rule never changes, so the same number always stands for the same letter. Your job is to work out which letter each number hides and reveal the message.

The twist is that every level uses a brand-new code. A might be 2 in one level and 10 in the next, so you can never memorize the answers. You always have to crack the code from the quote itself, which keeps every puzzle fresh.

In Cryptogram you play the role of a master codebreaker. Each puzzle starts with a few letters already revealed as clues. You tap an empty spot, pick a letter on the keyboard, and keep going until the full quote is revealed. The keyboard helps too: the small number on a key tells you how many of that letter are still hidden, and once every copy of a letter is found, its number disappears from the puzzle and its key is greyed out.

How to play Cryptogram

  1. Analyze the patterns. Start from the revealed clues, then look for one-letter words, short common words, repeated numbers, and common endings such as -ING or -ED.
  2. Assign the letters. Tap an empty spot and choose a letter on the keyboard. Watch the counts on the keys to see how many of each letter are left to find.
  3. Reveal the wisdom. Keep using logic to fill in the blanks until the full quote appears.

Tips for solving cryptograms faster

  1. Start with one-letter and two-letter words. A and I, then OF, TO, IN, IS, IT, BE, and ON.
  2. Hunt for THE and AND. They show up in almost every quote.
  3. Use apostrophes. A letter after an apostrophe is very often S, T, or D (IT’S, DON’T, I’D).
  4. Watch repeated numbers. The same number twice in a row is a double letter, and LL, EE, SS, OO, and TT are the most common pairs.
  5. Check word endings. Repeated three-letter endings are often -ING, and two-letter endings are often -ED or -LY.
  6. Start fresh every level. The code is reshuffled each time, so if A was 2 last level, that tells you nothing now. Solve from the patterns, not from memory.
